Escapism

“To Sleep Perchance to Dream” (Shakespeare, Hamlet. 1602)

The third work from the rectangular series is total fantasy and escapism. Those first weeks/ months into the pandemic, were frightening. Being by nature an extreme optimist, I found the times challenging. I searched for ways to make me happy. Long walks into nature with the dogs was fantastic, but not enough. Like Hamlet, I too, thought that to sleep is a chance to escape to a better place; to dream. Drawing enabled me to "dream" with my eyes wide open. to be here and not to be here at once. I delved into total fantasy with “drops” of dreams and memories. The sea which is forever arising in my imagination. Inventing anime like characters in a dynamic colorful background. A mixture of nostalgia, fantasy and anime. I was still lacking confidence in reemergence, hence continuing to work on brown construction paper. By the time I finished the series and displayed it, receiving fantastic feedback, enabled me to finally commit. First to myself and then to shout out “I am back – I am an Artist”.
