Plans Vs. Reality

From The Hight of Opening Night to The Lows of Loosing Someone Dear

The Saturday opening night was a success. The amount of people that showed up was amazing. The head of the community artists gallery was eutaxitic about opening night. Towards the end of the evening, we set up dates for various gallery talks with various groups with a possibility for more groups to visit. I received personal requests to meet up with friends of family and friends to show them the exhibit.

We all came home on a high. Family and friends continued the evening in our garden, laughter, lights, beer and the dogs coming in and out was for the main. My elderly dog (almost 18) was acting like a puppy; jumping on us wagging his tail hysterically, happy as the rest of the lot. We eventually went to bed.

Then Sunday morning. Reality.

The spare room next to ours, was full of dog’s puke, pee and poop. We first wanted to see which dog was ill. It was our beloved elderly pup. He was in so much pain that his back was curved. The same pup that was as happy as a lark the evening before. Naturally, we set up an appointment with our vet. The prognosis was not good. We decided to do our best, home caring for him, taking him to the vet every day for infusions and medicine, but nothing worked. By Thursday morning we realized that we all had to make our farewells before his last visit to the vet. It was devastating. We all were in tears. I still am as I write these words.

Two weeks have passed since opening night and it is time to go back to plans in spite of reality, because THAT is the meaning of LIFE; to live every moment to its compacity, to be positive and to be creative.

Through the tears I have already made a sketch for a new painting.

In memory of our beloved family dog.
