Ray of Light

Rollo Series #3

For the past two weeks, I have written about the "Rollo" Project Event. I wrote about the event itself, the excitement surrounding the event and its effects upon me as an artist. The next two blogs will be about the preparation for the event. How does one prepare for such an event? One cannot leave anything up for coincidence. For all to look like it was just ‘happening” one must do a bit of guided imagery.

The first thing I did was cut canvases to a comfortable size, that I can place on a large table or platform. Next, I picked a wide color scale that works well for me, placing each group of colors in a different basket. After that, all my favorite brushes. The next issue I tackled, was the time limitation with (!) music and distraction. I set up a timer on my music and began to paint. 20 minutes later, ready or not, I stopped.

The theme was a favorite of mine; a ray of light reflecting on the sea. Surprisingly, the exercise was a success. I found a fantastic way to approach the canvas when in doubt on what or how to paint. The subject choice is very symbolic for me; optimism at its best, just like a ray of light.
