The Trumpet and the Dancer

Rollo Series #1

I had the most wonderful opportunity and privilege to partake for a week about a year and half ago in the “Rollo” live international on-going art project. The excitement of being chosen, the excitement of painting live, being online with other countries around the world, the excitement of the tight time schedule, had me on a roll for the month prior and for many months after. It challenged me to my core, wondering if I was up to it, proving that I was. The interaction with the other artists, musicians and dancers was extremely productive, moving me from my comfort zone, enabling to take concepts, (like improvisation) from different disciplines (for example, time limits) in the arts and adapting them to one’s own.

“The Trumpet and the Dancer” was painted live on the evening allotted to me. I had two sessions of 20 minutes each to paint. There was a wonderful trumpeter with a very agile dancer. They performed and I painted. Each section was a separate painting. I went totally intuitive, listening, watching, feeling, painting. Only the colors were picked in advance. All else was on the spur of the moment, turning me into another one of the performers.
