The War in The Ukraine

A Retribute to My Graphic Artist

“Sea Storm” – From Rollo Project #1 – Acrylic on Canvas, 100cmx70cm @Barbara Adler Art 2021"

A little bit over two months, I sent my very talented graphic artist, my periodic updates for my site. I was watching the news with some concern, as she is from the Ukraine and I asked about her welfare. She laughingly told me not to take the news too seriously and all was well. We signed off with our usual well-wishings of having a great weekend ahead.

Two weeks ago, I watched in horror with the rest of the civilized world as Russia began its forceful, violent invasion of the Ukraine. People that look like you and me, running for their lives in freezing weather to neighboring friendly countries with just their clothes on their backs. People that two weeks before enjoyed their beer at their local pub, went skiing, had family Sunday dinners. Loved life.

I have since written my graphic artist to find out about her well-being, to no avail. To no reply. This blog, therefore, is dedicated to my graphic artist and all the artists that are struggling for their freedom, for their sovereignty and for their independence, that have laid down their paintbrushes, put aside their computers, have picked up to defend or to leave to save lives.

I watch in awe the Ukraine’s leader Zelensky. From comedian-actor to almost a superhero. Zelensky is confident and very aware of his image on social media. This is not to be taken lightly. This by no doubt allows for the Ukraine to win public opinion knockouts, putting their best foot forward, hopefully making a political impact that will bring this war to an end, sooner than later.

Public opinion is not made up just of facts. An interviewer can take the facts and place them blandly causing negative publicity. When heartfelt sincerity is stressed along with the facts, empathy, sympathy, and the desire to assist rise. Just like in art, you must give it heart. Despite the depressing feelings, I share with you some of my colorful art to allow room for hope and positivity.
